The post read “Serious question. Do you believe In God? A record number of Americans no longer attend religious services and say they no longer believe in God. How about you?”
I made the post earlier this week on my GetMarty Facebook page. In simple terms, the post EXPLODED! At this point nearly seven million people have seen the post, more than 525 thousand people have commented and nearly thirty thousand shares!
Astounding. A record-breaking response to a simple post.
Hundreds of thousands of people from all walks-of-life, from cities and states across America talked religion. I have NEVER seen so much debate.
Why? Americans are at a crossroads. Can I go back to work? Can I go back to school? Can I go back to church? Will I go back to church?
Hundreds of thousands of you said “yes. I believe in God.” Hundreds of thousands said: “I love Jesus, but I don’t have to be inside a building to believe in God.” Thousands denounced any trace of any God. One man saying “religion is for low intelligence, low life’s.”
Trust me. I respect and admire anyone with a strong faith. I am fascinated by it.
I do not know about my faith right now. I quit praying. I quit going to Catholic services. I struggle with any sort of spiritual commitment to God.
I found solace in many of the responses to my post. I’m not alone. We’re not alone. We haven’t given up on God, yet.
Studies show millions of young people have no God, no religion in their lives.
The truth is, that doesn’t surprise me. If we don’t have faith, why would our children have faith?
If we want our children to believe in God, we also need to believe.
