Pittsburgh will be represented on Jeopardy! Wednesday. NewsRadio KDKA’s Shelby Cassesse spoke with the contestant from Brookline who achieved a lifelong goal.
Ally Bove, a Duquesne alumna and faculty member in Pitt’s physical therapy department, has always wanted to be a contestant on Jeopardy!.
“I grew up watching Jeopardy! every night with my grandparents and my pap knew all the answers and I kind of aspired to that."
For over 10 years, Bove spent much of her free time taking the online Jeopardy! tests to get the contest process rolling. She finally got the call in the Fall of 2021.
Preparing for the show was an involved process for Bove. She said she would watch the show each night and study the categories she felt would be the most difficult.
"For me, that's mostly history and literature and some parts of geography," she said. "So, I just tried to learn the things that would be likely to come up on Jeopardy!."
Bove said studying potential categories was time consuming and difficult, but nothing compared to learning how to time the buzzer on the show just right.
"That was honestly the hardest part," she said. "What a casual Jeopardy! watcher or maybe even a dedicated Jeopardy! watcher may not realize is that for most of the clues, most of the contestants know the answer and it's just a matter of who's best on the buzzer."
Her episode will air Wednesday evening, as she takes on one of the show’s most-dominant contests of all-time, Amy Schneider.
“I think the fact that I went in without really high expectations of myself helps me to relax a little bit and have more fun with it,” Bove said.
