A new company is coming to Pittsburgh, and bringing almost two-hundred six figure jobs with it.
Elevate Bio - which works to develop gene and cell therapies - is moving into the Pitt BioForge Biomanufacturing Center at Hazelwood Green.
Governor Tom Wolf was in town Thursday to unveil the plan. "So the partnership between Elevate Bio and Pitt is really a big thing and it's just one more way that were doing what we really need to do to make sure we have the future we deserve and that is bring the world of work and the world of mind together."
It's part of a partnership with the University of Pittsburgh, which will see a $35 million investment into the facility and 172 new jobs.
CEO David Hallal expects the partnership to advance the world of life sciences right here in Pittsburgh. "We believe Pittsburgh is an ideal location to expand our manufacturing and technology footprint because it sits at the intersection of science, technology, and talent."
The two sides have agreed to a 30 year partnership. "This long-term partnership has the goal of accelerating the development and production of highly innovative cell and gene therapies. This is an environment where the scientific discoveries and innovations that happen in laboratories and hospitals can rapidly be brought to reality." Says University of Pittsburgh's Chancellor Gallagher.
Construction on the facility is set to begin in 2023 and take about five years to complete.
