Hunters could get an extra day thanks to a new bill.

State Rep. Mandy Steele's bill would repeal Pennsylvania's ban on Sunday hunting by giving the power to the state game commission.

She said she's heard from numerous hunters who want the extra time during the hunting season.

“We are seeing some working people, who work six days a week, they leave our state to go hunt in other states on Sundays, that’s not okay, we need to keep them hunting here,” said Steele.

She adds that families have more going on in their lives than ever before.

“If Saturday is the only options to get kids out into the woods, then in many cases, it’s just not going to happen,” said Steele. “We really need the full weekend.”

The state ended a total ban on Sunday hunting in 2019 when lawmakers approved three Sundays a year.

The legislation has the support of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, which was against Sunday hunting in the past, but its members are now supporting Sunday hunting as long they meet certain criteria.

David Varner with the PA Farm Bureau says it would give hunters another day in the woods. He sculling deer would help reduce crop damage and allow farmers to reconnect with the hunting community.
