Allegheny County has its first confirmed case of West Nile Virus in humans this year.
A woman in her 80s from the city's Elliott neighborhood had contracted the disease and died in late September.
The County Health Department says it won't release any more information due to privacy concerns. But it says there are more mosquito traps set up in Elliott and the West End to try and stop the spread of the disease.
So far, this year, the state has reported 10 cases of West Nile Virus.
In Allegheny County, two cases were reported in 2033 and three in 2021.
The CDC says between 70 and 80 percent of those that are infected with West Nile virus don’t develop symptoms or even know that have it.
You can help reduce mosquito populations by removing standing water in your yard and using insect repellent on exposed skin.
