First cases of omicron confirmed in Allegheny County

PITTSBURGH (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) After weeks of hearing about the spread across the world of a new coronavirus variant, omicron has officially been detected in Allegheny County.

It was announced Thursday by the Allegheny County Health Department that two males were confirmed positive cases with moicron.


The first male was tested on Dec. 7 and confirmed as omicron on Dec. 22; The second case was tested Dec. 13 and confirmed Dec. 23.

Health department director Dr. Deborah Bogen stated that omicron is highly contagious and she expects to see a vast increase in the variant.

Dr. Bogen continued to urge the public to get vaccinated, wear masks, and maintain social distancing to help mitigate the spread of the virus.

If you are experiencing symptoms, it is recommended that you get tested and remain quarantined.
