The Mercer Area School District is alerting parents to an incident in its locker room this month where a booster allegedly provided several football players with a liquid containing the supplement called Methylene Blue.

The substance is one of the oldest synthetic dyes in the world and also used for treating a certain blood condition.

The Mayo Clinic says the injection is treats a condition called “methemoglobinemia” (when the blood can’t deliver oxygen to parts of the body that it is needed).

“This medicine is to be given only by or under the supervision of a doctor,” the Mayo Clinic says.

But has also been the subject of a recent TikTok craze touting alleged anti-aging benefits and enhancing memory.

The School says the booster has been banned from District property.

Child Line has been notified and they're also reviewing the procedures governing building and locker room access.
