Tension between Kiski Township Police and supervisors boiled over as most of the department's officers walked off the job.
Former officer-in-charge Thomas Dessell and four others have called it quits, all but dismantling the township's small department.
Dessell says township supervisors are to blame. He claims they created a toxic work environment, including harassment and intimidation.
"We all love our jobs, including myself. We love the community we serve. It was gut-wrenching, but these supervisors need to realize they are making mistakes, and continue to make mistakes."
Dessell claims some of the tension stems from the supervisors alleged misuse of police surveillance footage.
United Steelworkers represents the officers - a spokesperson said the organization is working with them to address their concerns.
Township officials have not responded to request for comment.
