Freezing rain is expected to make its way through the Pittsburgh area late Wednesday into tomorrow.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Colton Milcarek KDKA Radio it's looking like conditions will be ideal for some ice but it’s likely it’s warm enough and melted by the morning commute.
“That most likely time of arrival for the onset of freezing rain is going to be sometime between around 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. in Allegheny County,” said Milcarek.
The ice should wrap up around sometime between midnight and 2 a.m. and then change over to just rain.
But, Milcarek says, it all depends on the temperature. He says they are keeping a close eye on when it starts to warm up.
If the warmer air gets to the area quickly, there may be no freezing rain at all, but Milcarek says there is only a 10 percent chance of that happening.
Most likely, there will be a glaze to a tenth of an inch of ice.
The good news is, it looks like temperatures will be warm enough by the Thursday morning commute to melt any remaining ice on the roads.
“But again, we shouldn’t rule it out at this time, so give a quick check in in the morning, see what your temperatures are looking like, is probably best advised.”
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. Wednesday through 4 a.m. Thursday.
