Joe Hardy died Saturday, which was also his 100th birthday.
The founder of 84 Lumber was surrounded by friends and family in his Farmington home.
A statement from the Hardy family says Joe "helped make the American dream real for so many, and he will be greatly missed."
Public viewings will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Beinhauer Funeral Home in McMurray.
Hardy's funeral is Thursday morning at 11 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with full military honors.
Hardy attended Mt. Lebanon High School, Shadyside Academy and then went to College at Lehigh University.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army during his final year at Lehigh and was a radioman during the Second World War.
Hardy was also the founder of the Nemacolin Resort in Farmington, Pennsylvania.
Maggie Hardy, current CEO of 84 Lumber said in a statement:
My father was always asking, 'What's next?' He wanted to conquer the next challenge or make something even better. He taught us never to be satisfied and push to be better today than we were yesterday. He had an infectious outlook and personality that inspired people. He never missed an opportunity to teach a lesson in business or in life. And he valued his people more than anything.
Hardy is survived by his eight children, 15 grandchildren and three step sons.
