There has been speculation for weeks now on who will be the next City of Pittsburgh Police Chief, on Wednesday we’ll finally get an answer.
Mayor Ed Gainey will announce his nominee for Chief of the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police at 9 a.m. inside the City-County Building.
Gainey will be joined by the Director of Public Safety Lee Schmidt and the nominee.
Larry Scirotto is one of three nominees and believed to be the pick.
Scirotto was a former assistant chief in Pittsburgh before retiring in 2018 and then briefly working as a police chief in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
He was fired for reportedly favoring non-white employees.
Two other nominees include one controversial frontrunner, Ryan Lee, who was the police chief of Boise, Idaho, but city councilmembers expressed opposition after he was accused of choking a fellow officer during a demonstration.
The third finalist was former Pittsburgh police commander Jason Lando.
