The Original Oyster House Celebrates 150th Birthday

Pittsburgh oldest restaurant reaches a milestone this month.
The Original Oyster House in Market Square will celebrate it's 150th birthday on Monday, October 12.
Owner Jen Grippo said the restaurant is planning a celebration, though different from what they had hoped it would be, "we can't wait to celebrate with our lifelong customers and friends on Monday. This was not the celebration we had imagined, but we are planning a great day and are so happy to have this excitement to look forward to!"
Live music, giveaways and more will take place at the restaurant on Monday to mark the occassion.
"The restaurant's Birthday was always an important day for my dad, Lou. He really loved it. We see October 12 as the kick-off of to a yearlong celebration of our 150th Birthday. We sincerely hope that next October, we can throw the big bash that our customers, friends, and family are used to."
The Original Oyster House first opened in 1870. Oysters were sold for a penny and a glass of beer was 10 cents.
The restaurant will begin celebrating at 11am on Monday and will remain open until at least 7pm.
