Gas prices are nearing four dollars a gallon in western Pennsylvania, while diesel costs are nearly two dollars higher.
Lawmakers from both parties say temporarily suspending the state’s fuel taxes — among the highest in the country — could ease pressure on drivers and businesses.
Proposals range from a 60-day pause to a six-month tax holiday, though the move could also impact funding used to maintain roads, bridges, and state police.
Lawmakers return to session next month, when the proposals could move forward.
