Get Marty: COVID kept people from going to the doctor, now doctors are seeing the impact

This doctor tells Marty Griffin why they're seeing sicker people

The Get Marty: Community Bridges series is made possible with the support of UPMC.

Did you skip a doctor's appointment or follow-up visit during the pandemic? If so, you're not alone but you may have created new problems that have to be treated.

It's something UPMC doctors are seeing a lot of according to Dr. Eric Hager, Chief of Vascular Surgery for UPMC East. He's also co-director for the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute's Vein Center.

In the video on this page, Marty Griffin talks with Dr. Hager about what they're seeing with patients who skipped doctor's visits and important follow-ups because of concerns about the coronavirus. As a result, they're now having to work with patients on complications or other issues.

Marty also talked with Dr. Hager about vascular diseases, treatments, and ways to prevent them.  You also don't want to miss the moment he talks about performing a procedure on his own wife (4:52 into the video). It was apparently one of the less-painful, newer treatments.
