PITTSBURGH (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) An Italian heritage group says it will appeal a judge's ruling clearing the way for the city to remove the Christopher Columbus statue in Schenley Park.
The Italian Sons and Daughters says the mayor alone can't override an ordinance.
Tony Ferraro, the Chairman of the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame, joined the Big K Morning Show to give his thoughts.
"The support… that we've had at that site," Ferraro said. "A lot of history there. For it to come down just because of the art commission? They'd take down any statue anymore."
In 2020, the Pittsburgh Art Commission voted to remove the statue and Mayor Bill Peduto approved the decision.
