Workers at The LeMont restaurant in Mt. Washington say they were shocked to discover that a patron left behind a firearm in the main dining room.
General Manager Marco Corona tells the Big K Morning Show that staff members were cleaning up after a wedding reception on November 11, and discovered a gun underneath a table.
“I’ve been there for 43 years and never in all of my time experienced anything like that and I was thinking . . . who does that, who’s that irresponsible they would do that, it just amazed me,” said Corona.
Police traced the weapon back to an owner in Penn Hills, whose license to carry a concealed firearm had expired.
Public safety officials say the owner was notified, and the gun was sent to the County Crime lab.
It’s among a growing trend across the country with new statistics showing an increase in gun ownership.
Currently, there is one and a half guns for every man, woman and child in the United States.
40 guns have been stopped by TSA agents at Pittsburgh International Airport so far this year, a new record.
Attorney Phil DiLucente tells the Big K Morning Show the problem with many gun owners is that they are not responsible.
“Remember when we were growing up none of us at little cell phones now everybody has one, it’s attached to them except they’re less responsible at times with their guns than they are their cell phone,” said DiLucente.
Dilucente is calling for stiffer fines for people who bring guns into airports accidentally.
