Gun ownership is skyrocketing in our area according to the Sherriff’s in Allegheny and Butler Counties.

They say it tends to happen on the heels of tragic events like mass shootings.

Butler County Sheriff Michael Slupe tells the Big K Morning Show law abiding people should be able to make that choice, but training is severely lacking.

“You watch a lot TV, a lot of guns being shot, bang bang, you shoot the guy,” said Slupe. “Let me tell you, there are people that can’t shoot the broadside of a barn. You gotta have training. You think you can do this, it’s not that easy to shoot a gun.”

He advocates for people to learn the laws of gun ownership, how to safely use one, and how to clean a gun.

His office offers training in Butler County.

Over the weekend a record-number of people applied for a conceal carry during an event hosted by the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office.
