Heritage Valley Health System says it is closing its hospital in Kennedy Township on June 30th.
A message to employees said the reasons for the closure of the former Ohio Valley General Hospital include fewer patients and lower insurance reimbursements.
The closure will eliminate the emergency department, behavioral health treatment and surgery for outpatients.
“Due to the ongoing decline in patient activity and the reduction in provider reimbursements, which have resulted in adverse financial performance at Heritage Valley Kennedy Hospital, Heritage Valley Health System (HVHS) will be consolidating patient care services into its other facilities, effective June 30, 2025,” A release from Heritage Valley to KDKA Radio reads.
These services will be “temporarily closed” at the Kennedy location
Emergency Department
• Inpatient Geriatric Behavioral Health and Adult Behavioral Health Units
• Outpatient Surgery
• Specialty diagnostic services (i.e., CT Scan and Ultrasound)
• Pulmonary Rehabilitation
Those services will remain in operation at Heritage Valley in Sewickley and Beaver.
Some services, like a walk-in clinic, x-rays, rehab, lab draw services and doctors’ offices will remain at the medical office building next door.
Employees will be offered severance packages or jobs at other Heritage Valley facilities.
