PITTSBURGH (Newsradio KDKA) - The U.S. Senate has approved the $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure plan.
Passage provides momentum as the bill heads to the House.
"We're talking about a program that's going to add two million jobs annually for a decade," said Congressman Mike Doyle, of Pennsylvania's 18th Congressional District, during the KDKA Radio Morning Show Wednesday. "And it's the largest federal investment ever in public transit and passenger rails, in bridge investment and clean drinking water."
Doyle says this bill puts $7.5 billion toward a national network of electric vehicle charging stations.
"These are investments in the infrastructure that are forward looking too, as we start to see changes in out vehicles," Doyle said. "When you talk about how you finance, it used to be the gasoline tax - Well, it can't be the gasoline tax come 2035. I think we're going to move to a more miles-driven type of scenario to help fund the highways."
