A Jeannette Police officer is facing charges for filing false reports.

Investigators say Jeannette's police chief noticed something didn't seem right in a series of traffic reports turned in by officer Matthew Painter in mid-to-late June.

They say they found 18 entries on his traffic reports which they believe were falsified.

They say Painter claimed to have handed out warnings to a number of drivers, but they determined that he wasn't at the location at the time and date on those reports.

Some of the drivers say they hadn't been stopped by Jeannette officer at the time in question.

They say on at least one of them, Painter's body cam showed he was actually in the police station.

He's facing 18 misdemeanor counts of tampering with public records.
