Klavon's Ice-Cream Parlor in the Strip District will pay workers $15 an hour after struggling to find summer employees.
Co-owner Jacob Hancher was Lynn Hayes-Freeland's guest on Newsradio KDKA.
“You know what, $15 an hour, we’re going to include the tips and people are going to have a great experience here and our customers are also going to receive a great experience because we’re paying people more now,” said Hancher.
Klavon’s is hiring at all positions including management, “that includes equity in our company.”
Over 100 applications have been received by Klavon’s since Tuesday, including 50 on Facebook.
Klavon's is challenging all small businesses in the Pittsburgh region to raise starting wages to $15 an hour.
