Kristine Sorensen is celebrating her 20th year anniversary with KDKA-TV this month.

Her on-air counterpart, Ken Rice, abruptly cut out of a news story to surprise her with a look back at her career.

Kristine started at KDKA on April 3, 2003. Her first assignment being coverage of newly rescued American solider Jessica Lynch.

She talked about being sent to West Virginia as a new reporter on the Big K Morning Show Wednesday.

“No exaggeration I walked in the door at KDKA, met a few people… and literally within an hour was sent out to West Virginia to cover that story; it was crazy.”

Before Kristine and Ken became the power anchor team that they are known as today, she was first paired with Don Cannon on the weekends, where she spent three years until moving to afternoons with Ken Rice.

Kristine and Ken are also the longest running anchor team in the city with 17 years together on KDKA-TV.

Along with being a news anchor, she was also a preview host for Pittsburgh Today Live and runs the “Kidsburgh” series, which she won an Emmy for in 2019.

Kristine also makes a special appearance every week on the Big K Morning Show with Larry Richert and her husband, Marty Griffin.
