A large snake was spotted Thursday on a trail in Frick Park.
A witness who saw the snake thought it may not be a native species. However, reptile experts at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium identified the snake as a Black Rat Snake.
They say that while it's not common to see it in the park, it is harmless and is a species that is native to the area and is beneficial to the environment.
Pittsburgh Park Rangers and Animal Care & Control were searching for the snake on Thursday.
Officials warn anyone who comes across a large snake that is unfamiliar to stay away and call police.
