Republican State Representative Natalie Mihalek says despite strong opposition from the governor and others in the Democratic party, she's not backing down from her legislation that calls for a constitutional amendment to privatize Pennsylvania’s state-run liquor system.
A hearing on the legislation was held Monday morning at the state Capitol building. She tells Marty Griffin on NewsRadio KDKA that her biggest opponent is the union for the state store workers.
“They came out during the hearing, in no uncertain terms, said that they will put everything they’ve got against me and against this proposal. I think that’s just kind of indicative what they’ve been able to do for these decades is wield their immense power.”
In order to implement the proposed constitutional amendment, it will need to be passed in identical form in two consecutive legislated sessions.
It would then be placed on the ballot for voters to have the final say.
