The head of a community action group says the string of crime and shootings in the Pittsburgh region is out of control.

Henry White, who runs the Real News and Alerts of Allegheny County on social media, tells The Big K Morning Show that a vast majority of those involved in gun violence are juveniles.

“Teenagers with these guns,” said White. “We’re talking about kids, 13, 14, 15-years-old.”

White adds the situation has gotten worse since the closing of the Shuman Juvenile Detention center last year.

“They’re being released to their parents, not to a juvenile detention facility and they go back out there the next day and they’re out there with a  gun again,” said White.

White is calling on citizens, police, political officials and community leads to get together to help figure out a way to solve the issue.

One of the people arrested in connection to a shooting outside a funeral last Friday is 16-years-old. The other suspect in custody is 19.

A recent KDKA Radio editorial says its time to open a much-needed juvenile facility.
