Local Mexican restaurant fails follow-up inspection

Pittsburgh's Headlines: July 1, 2026

A Mexican restaurant in Southwestern PA has failed a follow-up inspection by state health officials.

The Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food safety says Picante Grille on Route 22 in Delmont had three repeat violations after the reinspection on Monday.

Inside a walk-in cooler, inspectors found several items above the safe temperature of 41 degrees or lower.

Those items include queso dip (54 degrees), cooked chicken (71 degrees), cooked beans (47 degrees), gallons of milk (50 degrees) and rice and chilies at 50 and 51 degrees respectively.

The person in charge told inspectors that none of the food items were cooked on the day of the inspection and were not sure how long the items had been above 41 degrees.

All of those items were thrown away.

The ambient temperatures inside the walk-in ranged from 49 to 51 degrees and the person in charge called for the cooler to be serviced.

Both violations are listed as "repeat violations" on and inspection report.

The restaurant is subject to a fine and another follow-up inspection will take place within 10 days.

If a restaurant remains noncompliant for an extended period of time, the Dept. of Agriculture can file a citation with a district judge.
