A man faces several charges, accused of breaking into a local Aldi grocery store and causing damage to a police vehicle.
Police say 32-year-old Angel Ortega-Yanez broke into the North Huntingdon Aldi location on Norwin Avenue just before 2 a.m. on Tuesday morning using a hammer and pry bar.
When officers arrived, they saw a man running from the store. Police say Ortega-Yanez hit the police car with a hammer, shattering the windshield.
Ortega-Yanez was taken into custody.
In addition to causing damage to the front doors of the Aldi, Ortega-Yanez reportedly stole $800 from a box inside the store.
The cash was recovered and returned. Police say surveillance footage shows the suspect inside the store.
Ortega-Yanez is charged with burglary, criminal trespassing, criminal mischief, theft and more.
He was denied bail because he doesn’t have a known address.
