PITTSBURGH (Newsradio KDKA) - Oil prices soared to over $100 per barrel last week.
As those rates are expected to grow even higher, some wonder if the natural resources in Pennsylvania could help alleviate those costs.
David Callahan, president of the Marcellus Shale Coalition, says the commonwealth could accomplish just that.
"We need infrastructure, we need shovels in the ground," Callahan said Monday during the KDKA Radio Morning Show. "We need common sense policies to allow that infrastructure to be developed so that we get pipelines to serve markets both domestically and internationally."
Pennsylvania could establish short and long-term solutions for energy worldwide amid the Ukraine/Russia war, as Europe will need alternative energy suppliers moving forward.
The Appalachian region is number three in the world when it comes to their natural gas supply.
"We have generations of natural gas available," Callahan said. "The American Gas Association came out with its estimates last fall."
