The Pennsylvania Department of Health is informing the public of a possible measles exposure after a positive test in a person that visited the New Stanton Service Plaza on the westbound side of the PA Turnpike last month.
The Department of Health says the person may have exposed others at the plaza in Westmoreland County on August 17.
Anyone who was at the service plaza, including the Burger King, Starbucks, Sunoco, 7-11, bathroom area, and dining area is asked to check their vaccination status and monitor for symptoms.
“Symptoms to watch for include fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes, followed by a rash that starts on the head or face and spreads downward,” the DOH says. “Symptoms can start 7 to 21 days after exposure. The only way to prevent measles is with the MMR vaccine.”
Anyone who believes they may have been exposed should call the Department of Health’s number 1-877-PA-HEALTH.
