A huge change started April 1st with the requirements for Pennsylvania's Medicaid eligibility. All of the pandemic changes that were in effect are now gone! That means the state is now enforcing the original rules and requirements to get access to the benefits.

That's why this discussion with Certified Elder Law Attorney Julian Gray is so important. Watch the video on this page to see what's changed and what you need to know  if you're signing up or just to keep your benefits.

If you're already receiving PA Medicare coverage, Julian says to watch your mailbox.

“You will most likely be getting a letter in the mail from the Department of Human Services through the county assistance office. It’s time-sensitive. You may have only have about 10 days to respond.”

During the pandemic federal law allowed DHS to essentially pause the requirements and stopped terminating benefits for people who no longer qualified.  Those days are now officially over.

According to DHS Press Secretary Brandon Cwalina, "Pennsylvania has more than 3.6 million total people covered by Medicaid as of January 2023, and while 617,000 individuals could be ineligible based on their last renewal and 598,000 have not completed their most recent renewal"
