The Monessen School District is no longer tolerating disruptive fans at sporting events.
Director of Athletics Gina Naccarato tells Colin Dunlap the district has adopted a three-strike policy for fans that display disruptive behavior during games.
1st offense:
A person who is removed from an event for behavior issues will be required to take an online sportsmanship class through the National Federation of State High School Associations. Adults will have to take the “Positive Sports Parenting” class, students will need to take the “Sportsmanship” class.
After the course is finished, the person has to schedule a meeting with Monessen’s athletic director, principal and superintendent to prove completion.
2nd offense:
Person is banned for an entire calendar year from attending any Monessen School District game or event.
Anyone that tries to attend a game/event after the second strike will be cited for trespassing and removed from the property.
They must also meet with administrators after the year is up.
3rd offense:
Lifetime ban.
The individual is unable to attend any Monessen game/event for the rest of their life.
Naccarato says over 15 years as an athletic director she has seen a lot and hopes that the first offense is enough for people to correct their behavior.
She adds they are having trouble keeping referees and officials due to harassment and want to put an end to it.
