A question posed to some middle school students in the Moon Area School District is reportedly not sitting well with some.

KDKA TV's Chris Hoffman reports that students in a social studies class were asked "Would you rather have been a well-taken care of slave or risked everything for a CHANCE of freedom? Explain."

The district issued a statement apologizing for the question. "A middle school social studies class discussion was brought to our attention last evening," the statement reads. "We have removed the question from the course and apologize to the students and families who were impacted by this assignment."

Hoffman reports that one parent calls the question is "out of touch" and "insensitive."

The district's statement went on to say, "This question, while part of a larger class discussion detailing the evils of slavery, failed to meet our district standards."
