A four-alarm fire destroyed an apartment building on Oakwood Avenue in West View Wednesday.
The call came in around 10:45am.
West View Police Lieutenant Matthew Holland said when crews got on scene, they immediately started a rescue mission.
"There was some indication that there might be a female still trapped in the building. The fire department did locate her. She was unconscious." he said.
The woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The firefighter was treated at the scene for burns and smoke inhalation and is okay.
Seven people lived inside the building, which is expected to be a total loss. The American Red Cross is assisting the people who have been displaced.
