The business of March Madness means big bucks to host cities across the country, that includes Pittsburgh.
Get your brackets ready. SportsPITTSBURGH is partnering with Duquesne University to once again host the First and Second Rounds of the NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Championship.
SportsPITTSBURGH Executive Director Jennifer Hawkins tells KDKA Radio this event puts a national spotlight on Pittsburgh and generates a significant return on its investment.
“When we hosted in 2022, we estimated the direct spend being approximately $10.4 million dollars and I just want to underscore, that’s $10.4 million new dollars into our community, into Allegheny County,” said Hawkins.
Around 20,000 people are expected to attend the event at PPG Paints Arena.
Pittsburgh has hosted the early rounds of the NCAA Tournament seven times since 1997.
In Omaha, the Duquesne Dukes will face No. 6 BYU Thursday afternoon.
