The New Brighton police department will receive federal funding for body-worn cameras.
In a release from State Representative Aaron Bernstine's office, New Brighton borough manager Tom Albanese said “BWCs are useful for documenting evidence; officer training; preventing and resolving complaints by members of the public; and strengthening police transparency, performance and accountability.
“This technology is a key to ensuring the public outcry for justice and accountability for our police is met,” said Albanese.
The borough will receive $15,610 through the BWC Policy and Implementation Program to Support Law Enforcement Agencies.
The money will be used to purchase the camera systems as well as data storage and costs associated with BWC systems, according to Bernstine's office.
