Allegheny County launched Wednesday a portal for sexual assault victims to track their cases.
Per the Allegheny County Office of Medical Examiners and the Allegheny County Police Department, the new web portal provides victims of sexual with a connection to pursue information on their case.
Assistant Superintendent for the Allegheny County PD, Victor Joseph, told KDKA Radio how this benefits victims.
“It enables them to seek information in their own time, when it convenient for them, when they feel comfortable doing it,” said Joseph. “They may not want to speak to a detective at that particular moment in time so, it gives them the ability to do it when they want to do it, how they want to do it.”
The web portal doesn't provide info to the general public, instead it gathers info from the person seeking the detail which is then received by an assigned Sexual assault kit initiative liaison and vetted before being pursued.
Support for the project came from 2019 Bureau of Justice Assistance Sexual Assault Kit Initiative funding.
