Where's the best place to live in the Pittsburgh area? According to a new survey by Niche.com, the number one neighborhood locally is Mt. Lebanon.
The rankings were based on crime, cost of living, job opportunities and local amenities.
Mt. Lebanon, which has 32,303 residents, is a destination place for many people to visit because of the shops, restaurants, bars and parks. Mt. Lebanon Public Information Officer Laura Pace-Lilly was a guest on the KDKA Morning show. She tells Larry and Kevin they are fortunate to have three vibrant business districts.
"We are very proud of our Main Streets", she says. "So Washington Road is our biggest one. We also have a great one on Beverly Road and then a smaller on Castle Shannon Boulevard. And we even have a mall in the Galleria".
She says public schools was also a big factor in their rise to the top.
"The academic reputation is well-known", she says. "But they take care of the little things, too. For example, we're one of the few districts that starts strings with kids in third grade, you know, in a time when districts are cutting music programs, these programs are strong in Mt. Lebanon".
The rest of the top 10: Aspinwall, followed by Franklin Park, Regent Square, Fox Chapel, O'Hara, Marshall, Upper St. Clair, Point Breeze and Bradford Woods.
The list of former and current famous residents of Mt. Lebanon includes American Entrepreneur Mark Cuban, Singer Daya, and KDKA Radio's own Marty Griffin.
