California native pleads guilty to killing infant in Shadyside

Nicole Virzi has pleaded guilty to killing six-week-old Leon and assaulting his twin, six-week-old Ari and was sentenced to 35 to 80 years in prison.

Virzi, a PH. D student from San Diego used her trusted relationship with the Roberts\Katz family to put herself in a position to commit the acts of violence.

The 32-year-old Virzi was with alone with Leon in June 2024 inside the family home when parents Savannah Robert and Ethan Katz took Ari to the hospital for injures that they would later learn were from Virzi.

The plea was made in part to honor the children's parents wishes to avoid enduring the trial.

Virzi has been held in the Allegheny County Jail since her arrest on June 16th of 2024.
