The Vice-Chairman of Nippon Steel on Monday met with the mayors of the Mon Valley at Kelly's Garage to talk about the Japanese company's proposed nearly $15 billion acquisition of U.S. Steel.

A proposal that the Biden administration has tried to block from going through.

Takahiro Mori tells Larry Richert on the Big K Morning Show that all the mayors seem to be on board with the proposed deal.

“Not only mayors, but also, I met with many workers in the steel plant and every one of them wants this deal,” said Mori.

Mori adds the local business leaders and citizens want the acquisition to happen.

“I believe this deal is the best for the future of this region,” said Mori.

Mori adds Nippon Steel is committed to investing in the Mon Valley and will not abandoned Western Pennsylvania if a deal is done.

Both Nippon Steel and U.S. Steel filed a federal lawsuit Monday challenging the Biden administration's decision to block the deal.

Mori says Nippon is not giving up on getting a deal done and will continue fighting.
