Funds are being raised after a family in Southwestern PA, already dealing with a cancer diagnosis, is now homeless due to a fire.
Russell and Anna Buckholz and their three children lost their home after a fire in North Huntingdon on Broadway Street this past Tuesday afternoon.
In addition to losing their home, one of the family cats died.
Luckily their dog and three other cats were found alive.
The family’s challenges started over the summer when Anna was supposed to have a hysterectomy until tests came back abnormal and she was later diagnosed with liver cancer, an autoimmune liver disease and cirrhosis.
Anna has been undergoing treatments and will begin radiation and immunotherapy in late November.
Prior to her diagnosis, Anna lost her job as a medical assistant at a primary care facility in the area.
To add insult to injury, the family dealt with multiple flooded basements and appliance issues (before the fire).
In an effort to help alleviate the financial burdens and stress the family is experiencing a “spotfund” fundraiser has been started.
The family is currently staying in a hotel and when Anna begins radiation, her kids won’t be able to be near her due to the radiation.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Russell’s sister tells KDKA Radio they are also accepting donations for pet food, cat litter, along with socks and underwear or gift cards.
Adult clothes are also being accepted.
Anyone wishing to donate clothes or gift cards can message Russell’s sister on Facebook.
