While Major League Baseball and its players continue negotiating through a lockout, local businesses are watching closely.
For neighboring restaurants North Shore Tavern and Mike's Beer Bar, Opening Day is typically circled on the calendar. The two restaurants are across the street from PNC Park, but with MLB cancelling the first two series of the regular season, owner Mike Sukitch is pumping the breaks on plans.
"As a seasonal location, we have to time when we hire people to get them in, to get them trained and get them prepared for a busy season vs.
our offseason."
As of Monday morning, the players reportedly made their first proposal, but the league called it a step backwards.
According to Jon Heyman of the MLB Network, the players union agreed to a few of the MLB's requests for the 2023 season. In addition to banning the shift, adding a pitch clock and making the bases larger were agreed to for the 2023 campaign; of those rejected were robotic umpires.
