With mainly clear skies forecasted around Western Pennsylvania Thursday night into Friday, catching a glimpse of the Aurora Borealis may be possible.
The northern lights are expected to be visible in Canada and the northern part of the United States.
With a possible G3 geomagnetic storm forecast due to multiple coronal mass ejections from the sun over the past few days coming toward the earth.
The best time to see the northern lights will be when its completely dark after sunset and looking toward the northern horizon.
KDKA-TV’s Mary Ours tells KDKA Radio the Aurora should be visible, “Hopefully you’ll be able to see them.”
Even if you can't see the Aurora borealis with the naked eye, your cell phone camera may be able to pick it up.
Long exposure with your camera phone could pick it up.
One of the challenges tonight will be the moon. A bright waning gibbous will be in the sky.
