Your driver's license may soon be a click away.
Some states allow residents to keep a copy of their driver's license on their phone.
Pennsylvania isn't there yet, but State Rep. Dan Miller wants to see it happen.
"We know people occasionally forget a license, we know occasionally people forget a wallet or a purse," explains Miller.
"People more and more are using their phones and don't want to carry their wallets or purses everywhere they go. So yeah, they're looking for ways to make things easier to pay for things and identify. Anything they can do to carry less and also be responsible at the same time."
He plans to re-introduce legislation that would authorize PennDOT to develop an app.
It would give Pennsylvania's 9 million drivers the option to download, renew and update their license right on their phone.
Like other states, digital IDs would be optional. Miller hopes his legislation will become law during the first half of this year and digital IDs will follow a year later.
