Incumbent Congresswoman Summer Lee will have a challenger in the Democratic primary next spring.
Edgewood Council member Bhavini Patel announced her candidacy Monday.
“I believe in the power of unity and collaboration, and as the daughter of an immigrant and a single mother who grew up working in my family’s food truck, I know firsthand what hard work and grit can do, as so many of you do too. And the power of that American Dream, that's what makes this region, our home, great,” Patel said in a statement announcing her candidacy.
Lee represents the 12th District.
“We need a member of Congress in touch and laser-focused on helping real people in this district,” Patel said. “We need a leader who wants to bring people together to get things done, not divide us. We need a member of Congress who will stand strongly with President Biden as he continues to deliver on historic legislation and investments.”
