Penn Hills is adding its own police force, becoming the third school district in the area to make the addition.
School board president Erin Vecchio says the move will increase security at the High school and middle school, on top of the safety measures they already have in place.
She says the addition of police is a preventative measure.
"Every day, you read stuff in the news, it's scary. I'm here to make sure the staff and the kids are safe, and that they can get a good education."
A vote takes place on Wednesday that will lay out the description of the supervisor who will hire the officers.
Vechhio adds they hope to have police on their school grounds in three months.
Penn Hills will join Plum and Gateway as the only local schools with their own police. Grant money will be used to pay for the officers.
