The President of Penn State University says it is time to consider closing some of its satellite campuses.

President Neeli Bendapudi says these campuses are safe:  Abington, Altoona, Behrend, Berks, Brandywine, Harrisburg, Lehigh Valley and the grad program at Great Valley.

They make up 75 percent of Penn State's enrollments.

But a task force has been chosen to look at how viable the remaining twelve branch campuses are.

Some of those include campuses in Southwestern PA: Beaver, Fayette, Greater Allegheny in McKeesport and New Kensington.

The President says it's not clear that all of them will close, but they can't all stay open.

Reasons include changing demographics and challenging enrollment numbers.

None would close before the end of the 2026-27 school year.
