Two new bills would add protections in case of cardiac arrest in schools.
Senate Bill 512 would require an AED in each Pennsylvania school and an emergency action plan in case the device is needed.
Senate Bill 513 would require athletic coaches and all other extra-curricular supervisors to take AED and CPR training.
The bill requires at least 10 percent of school staff in each building to be trained in CPR and AED use.
State Senator Katie Muth says Pennsylvania is one of the only states to not mandate AED's in schools.
"Sudden cardiac arrest can happen to anyone at any time without symptoms or warning signs, which is why its so important for our children to be surrounded by individuals whoa re prepared to act and save a life," explains Muth.
Companion legislation will be introduced in the house. The bills are slightly different than Senator Marty Flynn's Damar's Law, which would require AEDs at school sporting events and training for coaches.
