PITTSBURGH (Newsradio KDKA) - The political battle over Pennsylvania’s next legislative maps is intensifying. At issue is the state House map proposed earlier this month by the five-member Legislative Reapportionment Commission. Republican majority leader Rep. Kerry Benninghoff says the House map has been severely gerrymandered.
"It's pretty apparent to me that this map was drawn to benefit the Democrat Party," Benninghoff said during the KDKA Radio Morning Show Monday. "Predominately because they can't win at the ballot box as often as they would like to."
Democrats defend the map as “a fair and just” plan. The new maps, which are drawn every 10 years to reflect population changes across the state, will shape political power for the next decade.
