A local eatery and wholesaler has been named as one of Yelp’s top 100 U.S. Restaurants of 2023.
Pitaland in Brookline, which has been open for almost 55 years, came in 96th on the list.
Pitaland is known for its Middle Eastern and Mediterranean fare.
One Yelper described what Pitaland is to them.
Michelle L says: In its 53 years in business, Pitaland has fulfilled a lot of roles: deli, pita bakery, Middle Eastern market, and cultural center for countless immigrants wanting a taste of home—think delicious mezze plates, flatbreads, pita sandwiches, and traditional Middle Eastern desserts like baklava.
Pitaland also supplies restaurants and other places with pocket breads daily, making 10,000 of them each day.
Aleen Atencio, manager of Pitaland and the daughter of founders Joe and Jocelyne Chahine tells Yelp, “Pitaland has been the hub. My parents have met and helped so many people over the years because of our business—by sending them to schools, recommending the library, or employing them temporarily.”
Pitaland is known for its Lamb burger, gyros, salads, pepperoni rolls, deserts and more.
