Pittsburgh joins legal battle against the Trump administration's vehicle emission rollbacks

Pittsburgh is now part of a legal battle intended to fight vehicle emissions cuts made by the Environmental Protection Agency under the Trump administration.

An amicus brief was filed in the DC Circuit of the U.S. Court of Appeals in hopes of blocking the EPA rules.

Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto said "Now is not the time to be rolling back pollution and air quality standards, especially when President Biden has ordered the United States re-join the Paris Climate Accords.”

The city has joined National League of Cities, U.S. Conference of Mayors, the Local Government Coalition and a number of other municipalities and counties in the legal action and Pittsburgh is named specifically citing examples of efforts made to address pollution and climate change.

“Pittsburgh and other cities are already acting to significantly reduce emissions, knowing that the costs of inaction will only get worse in the near future,” Peduto said.
